Overview

This section provides information on unemployment benefits, medical insurance, low-cost to free wi-fi, and resources for undocumented individuals and immigrants. Expertise is provided by William Martinez, PhD; Samantha Schilf, and Elena Fromer.

Insurance

Free or low-cost internet service

  • Xfinity: Comcast’s internet essential low-cost service program provides $9.95/month with 50Mbps.
  • AT&T: Offers low-cost Wi-Fi starting at $30/month with up to 100Mbps.
  • Connect All offers reduced-cost computers and electronics equipment for nonprofit organizations and people who meet certain low-income criteria.
  • T-Mobile’s Project 10Million program for students: Free program for students or school districts with students who are eligible for the National School Lunch Program (ex. SNAP, Head Start, foster youth, etc.) grades K-12.

Resources for undocumented/immigrant individuals

  • San Francisco Rapid Response Network:  A system implemented to report ICE activity. They are offering accompaniment only for those going to criminal court hearings. Hotline number: (415) 200-1548.
  • SF Human Services Agency: Immigrants can get free help applying for public benefits and legal assistance from community organizations in SF.
  • Legal Aid at Work: Free legal services and programs that advocate for employment laws and systems that empower low-income workers and marginalized communities.
  • UndocuFund: Sonoma County’s natural disaster relief resource for undocumented members.
  • Immigrants Rising: Assists with educational access and opportunities for undocumented people.
  • Catholic Charities: Located in San Francisco, San Mateo and Marin – Provides assistance and programs for all ages in immigration, housing, and more.
