Changes to TB Screening Process for New Hires

New process will shorten the TB screening timeline and reduce the number of office visits.

The tuberculosis (TB) screening process for new hires at UCSF will soon be much quicker.

UCSF is transitioning to QuantiFERON-TB Gold Plus (IGRA) testing for employee health clearance, surveillance, onboarding, and compliance programs, starting July 1. The new process will shorten the TB screening timeline from two weeks to approximately three days and reduce the number of visits needed to OHS from four to one visit. This new screening process replaces the two-step PPD (Tuberculin Skin Test) for new hires.

Annual testing through the TB Flex program is not changing at this time.
