As part of the interactive process, UCSF assists current employees in seeking alternate work for which they are qualified.

Priority reassignment occurs after:

An employee receives permanent work restrictions,
The University has engaged in the interactive process,
It has been determined there are no accommodations that allow the employee to continue working in their regular job, and
It has been determined there are no open positions within the employee’s home department for which the employee is qualified.

This process is facilitated by Disability Management Services (DMS) in conjunction with the employee, the supervisor, and HR representatives.

During priority reassignment, DMS will work with the employee to look for alternate employment within the campus and the health system. This alternate job search is generally limited to 90 days.

Re-employment services occur after an employee has been medically separated from the University. The right to re-employment is available from one year (separation without disability income) to three years (separation with UCRP disability income) after medical separation.
