Update Your Lived Name in UCPath by June 15
Action is needed for UCSF employees whose lived name differs from their legal name in response to a UCPath system upgrade.
UCSF employees whose lived name differs from their legal name soon will have to take reconciliation actions in response to a UCPath system upgrade. As part of UCOP’s Gender Recognition and Lived Name (GRLN) Policy, the process for employees to designate their lived name is changing and Lived Name will go live in UCPath on June 20.
Action needed
Employees who already use a lived (preferred) name in UCSF’s Identity Management System (Bravura), but not in UCPath, will need to take the following actions by Thursday, June 15 to ensure their identity is not impacted by the UCPath upgrade.
- UCPath will be unavailable from 3 p.m. Friday, June 16 until 9 p.m. Monday, June 19.
- If no actions are taken, the preferred name in Bravura (currently seen in Outlook profiles) will be overridden with legal name once UCPath goes live on June 20.
Steps to update lived name in UCPath:
- Log into UCPath Online
- Select Employee Actions > Personal Information > Personal Information Summary
- In the Legal/Preferred Name section, select the arrow to expand the box
- Select Add Preferred Name
- Enter your information and click Save
Please note that adding a lived name to UCPath will update the name you see in your UCPath Dashboard.
Why is this happening?
As a major milestone in the implementation of the UC Gender Recognition and Lived Name policy, lived name will go live in UCPath on June 20. Those who currently have a preferred name in UCPath will see that name transition to new fields entitled First Name, Middle Name and Last Name instead of Legal First Name, Legal Middle and Legal Last Name. For employees who do not have a preferred/lived name, the “Name” field will be populated with their legal name. The “Name” in UCPath will then populate the lived name field in UCSF’s Identity Management System, Bravura (formerly Hitachi).
At UCSF we honor all employees’ lived identities. This includes enabling employees to use their lived or preferred name in the main UC system of record. Gender identity is fundamentally personal, and the University of California should ensure that all individuals have university-issued identification documents and displays of personal identification information that recognize their accurate gender identity and lived name (first name, middle name and/or last name or surname).
Important additional information
After June 15, lived names entered in UCPath will overwrite your display name seen in the campus applications. Updates may take 48 hours to appear in UCSF systems.
