UCSF Offers Resources for Individuals With Disabilities
Resources include Disability Management Services, Office of Disability Access and Inclusion and HOME | Student Disability Services
Last October, in accordance with National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), Disability Management Services (DMS) began a university-wide campaign to ensure that UCSF teammates with disabilities are aware of their university resources.
Some of those resources include:
Disability Management Services (DMS) works with staff, faculty, residents, fellows, postdoctoral scholars, and student teammate whose disability impacts their ability to be at work or return to work. In support of workplace diversity and employee retention, DMS provides guidance on the interactive process and reasonable accommodations. Our processes help support our teammates to continue working and the university to continue benefiting from their experience.
Office of Disability Access and Inclusion is a resource for individuals with disabilities. This office provides training, programs, and resources that empower and support the UCSF community in advancing its commitment to disability access, inclusion, and anti-ableism.
HOME | Student Disability Services provides individualized consideration of each student’s abilities, the functional impact of their disability, and program standards to devise creative and innovative accommodation solutions to ensure equitable access to students with disabilities.
Disability inclusion at work is about more than hiring people with disabilities. An inclusive workplace embraces individual differences and values all teammates for the strengths they bring to their jobs. Disability inclusion offers those with disabilities an equal opportunity to succeed, to learn, to be compensated fairly, and to advance.
What do we know about disabilities:
- Most people will experience a disabling condition at some point in their lives
- Employing individuals with disabilities expands the labor pool
- Patients of various backgrounds tend to feel more comfortable with physicians like them
- Having mentors and colleagues with disabilities fosters understanding of different abilities and perspectives, and creates an environment that challenges negative biases
You may have seen team DMS at Mission Bay, Parnassus, and Mt. Zion distributing flyers promoting the DMS campaign at work locations or you may have seen a flyer on the digital ads. If you have not seen our flyer and would like to obtain one, you can download and print one, or reach out to your assigned DMS Analyst.
