UCSF is committed to supporting employees engaged in the interactive process. As part of this support, Human Resources is here to help with the multiple actions needed if you are on a full or partial leave as part of this process.

The HR staff supporting you during you the interactive process have different roles and responsibilities. Similar to when you go to the doctor’s office, each individual has a specialty focus as part of your care.

While engaged in the interactive process with Disability Management Services (DMS), Health (Medical Center) Leave of Absence (MCLOA) unit /HR Shared Services continues to advise on:

  1. Use of paid leave accruals based on your leave type
  2. Recording leave balances in the HBS timekeeping system, should you wish to use these to cover your leave of absence
  3. Eligibility for Family and Medical Leave (FML) when a leave crosses a new calendar year
    • FML provides 12 workweeks of unpaid job and benefits protected leave per calendar year.
  4. Disability pay options available through Lincoln Financial Group
  5. Return to work requirements
  6. Leave of absence coding in UCPath

If you have questions pertaining to your workers’ compensation claim or retaining your UC health insurance and other benefits, the following resources are available to assist you:

  • Consult with your claim’s examiner at Sedgwick on any benefits payable and authorizations for medical treatment. 
  • For questions regarding University pay options, assistance with the workers’ compensation claim process, or pay options if your University pay has been exhausted:

Your contact regarding personal payments for benefits is UCPath. UCPath is responsible for sending you the benefit's billing letter to outline any costs associated with maintaining benefits.

  • Questions about the employer statement for the Lincoln Financial Group (LFG) claim should be directed to UCPath. Completion of the employer statement, by UCPath, is essential to processing the claim. The statement includes your last day worked, your pay status, and other pertinent information.
  • Your claim with Lincoln Financial Group is considered a private claim. You should contact your LFG claim’s examiner directly regarding any benefits due. Contact Lincoln Financial Group.
