Biography
Sophia Sandhu, PsyD, M.Ed is dedicated to amplifying support for people who are marginalized, fostering belonging, and recovering non-Western approaches to self care and community care. At the heart of her therapeutic approach lies a deep commitment to humanistic principles, liberation psychology, and identity affirmation. Her approach uses a blend of psychodynamic techniques and evidence-based tools to ensure care aligns with the individual’s culture and values. She aims to support clients in strengthening their internal awareness and agency, developing coping skills, and locating environmental and community supports to embrace life’s challenges with flexibility and resilience.
Throughout her clinical training, Dr. Sandhu has worked primarily with communities of color, individually with adults and children, and collaboratively with families. She is passionate about supporting clients with challenges such as depression, anxiety, trauma, school/career stress, burnout, life transitions, neurodivergence (ASD, ADHD), family/relationship conflict, and intersectional identity development.
Dr. Sandhu is a postdoctoral fellow with the UCSF Faculty and Staff Assistance Program. She completed her predoctoral internship at Community Health Awareness Council in Mountain View, Calif. She obtained her bachelor of science in psychobiology from UCLA, her master of education in Child Studies with a special emphasis on Poverty and Intervention from Vanderbilt University, and her PsyD from the Wright Institute in Berkeley. Dr. Sandhu currently serves as a representative of the California Psychological Association Division II board and the Anti-Discrimination Task Force.
