The UCSF Disability Awareness Campaign external site (opens in a new window)  launched at the June 2 Engagement Town Hall to highlight the lived experiences and contributions of faculty, residents, postdoctoral scholars, and staff with disabilities at UCSF, in addition to resources that support those living with a disability.

The month of July is Disability Pride Month and is an opportunity to honor the history, achievements, experiences, and challenges faced by individuals with disabilities. Disability Pride month was established in July because it marks the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Active participation in creating a welcoming, accessible, and inclusive environment for all faculty and staff at UCSF is one way to celebrate this month. You may also celebrate and honor Disability Pride Month by:

• Sharing your story as part of the Disability Awareness Campaign or on social media and include the hashtag #DisabilityPride
• Learn about ableism external site (opens in a new window) and how to dismantle it at work and beyond
• Learn about person first vs. identity first language external site (opens in a new window)
• Follow activists with disabilities: disabilityvisibilityproject external site (opens in a new window)
• Consider donating to organizations that center individuals with disabilities
• Use the disability pride flag as your background
• Follow blogs and publications about individuals with disabilities: withfoundation.org external site (opens in a new window)
