UCSF Earns Gold Recognition from the American Heart Association for Workplace Well-Being

The national assessment recognizes organizations with comprehensive strategies to support employee health, well-being, and engagement

With the start of National Wellness Month in August, UCSF is celebrating continued recognition for its commitment to supporting the health and well-being of its workforce.

For another year, UCSF has earned Gold Status from the American Heart Association's Well-being Works Better™ Scorecard, a national assessment that recognizes organizations with comprehensive strategies to support employee health, well-being, and engagement.

The annual scorecard evaluates organizations across multiple areas, including workplace policies and environment, well-being programs, employee engagement, communication, and measurement of outcomes. This year, UCSF scored above benchmark organizations in Organizational Policies & Environment. The Healthy Beverage Initiative and Smoke and Tobacco Free Policy are a couple of examples of the ways UCSF provides a strong foundation for supporting employee well-being.

"Receiving Gold recognition reflects the collective effort across many partners at UCSF to create a workplace where well-being is supported every day," said Kathleen Yumul, Wellness Program Manager. "From campus-wide initiatives to individual wellness resources, this accomplishment recognizes a collective commitment to making it easier for employees to build healthy habits, feel connected, and access the support they need to thrive."

"While we're proud of this achievement, I also view the assessment as a valuable roadmap for continuous improvement. It helps us identify opportunities to strengthen our programs, policies, and workplace culture so we can better support the evolving needs of our employees and embed a culture of wellness across the organization.”

Supporting well-being all year long

Recognition from the American Heart Association highlights UCSF's ongoing commitment to fostering a healthy workplace through evidence-based programs and resources that support physical, mental, emotional, and financial well-being.

Employees can take advantage of a wide range of offerings throughout the year, such as the Diabetes Prevention Program, Wellness Bingo, Step It Up and the Wellness Champions program. In August, the Faculty and Staff Assistance Program is hosting a webinar on menopause and Family Services is sharing resources and events in support of National Breastfeeding Month.

As National Wellness Month shines a spotlight on healthy habits and self-care, UCSF remains committed to expanding opportunities that help employees care for themselves while continuing to deliver exceptional care, research, and education.
