Overview
As an employee, your eligibility for retirement, health and welfare benefits depends on the type of job you have, the percentage of time you work and the length of your appointment. This is your guide to going from a career to per diem role.
What happens to my health benefits?
You will automatically qualify for the Core benefits package when you move from a career to per diem role. Your career benefits will end at the end of the month that you transition.
You will have 31 days to enroll in the benefits offered with the Core benefits package.
What happens to my retirement benefits?
When you transition to a per diem appointment you will stop contributing to UCRP (if applicable) and will stop accruing years of service. In Lieu of Social Security, you will contribute to the DC Safe Harbor Plan.
When do my health benefits end?
Your career benefits would end at the end of the month in which you transition into your per diem appointment. Once your current benefits end, you will have the option to continue your current coverage through COBRA or enroll in Core Benefits.
