A brief overview of the process to complete the action.

A non-occupational leave of absence (LOA) is when an employee needs a leave for a non-work-incurred injury, illness or other covered leave reason that may include:

  • their own serious health condition
  • providing care for a family member with a serious health condition
  • pregnancy disability leave (refer to the Pregnancy Disability Leave article)
  • bonding with a newborn, adopted child, or a child placed under their foster care
  • military leave
