A brief overview of the process to complete the action.

Retired University of California staff employees may be reemployed as a result of a need at UCSF, such as the retired employee possesses skills and institutional knowledge that the hiring department cannot otherwise obtain with equal cost effectiveness, the hiring department anticipates a prolonged hiring process of a replacement, or the hiring department anticipates the retired employee will assist a replacement in acquiring necessary skills and knowledge.

UC policy allows a retired staff employee-- defined as a former UC employee who is receiving a monthly retirement benefit or received a lump sum cashout from the University of California Retirement Program (UCRP)—to be rehired on a part-time basis (no greater than 43 percent appointment for a period not to exceed 12 months).

UC policy also allows for a retired staff employee who is receiving a monthly retirement benefit to suspend their retirement to be hired into a UCRP-eligible position, such as a career appointment or appointment that exceeds 43 percent time in a 12-month period.

Upon reemployment, retired UC staff employees, receiving a monthly retirement benefit, must choose whether or not they will suspend their monthly retirement income.
