In April 2019, HR launched a pilot of Job Builder, a tool developed by the UC Office of the President/Systemwide Human Resources to support creation and updating of job descriptions. The pilot began with 11 departments/units. In September, the pilot added 18 department/units. During this time we gathered feedback from pilot users and the HR staff supporting them to understand what works well and where further enhancements are needed in order to successfully rollout this technology to all campus departments.

Based on our analysis, HR has decided not to expand Job Builder for new users during 2019. The three main reasons are:

  • Job Builder currently requires departments to update their internal processes for job creation and review
    • Enhancements are needed to reduce manual workarounds
  • System-based constraints
    • We are currently in discussion with UCOP on incorporating the Employee Requisition Form (ERF), and creating a generic job description template so all job descriptions can be created in this system
  • System expertise and bandwidth to support a campus launch
    • HR will continue to develop our expertise to support a future full campus launch of Job Builder. We continue to partner with UCOP on Job Builder enhancements already underway. At the same time, we are focused on other major change initiatives such as supporting our customers through the transition to UCPath.

Our decision is rooted in ensuring that we have a successful campus rollout for HR customers and staff. We will continue to assess and refine the Job Builder tool in partnership with UCOP to determine a new go-live date.

If you are currently in the Job Builder pilot, we ask that you remain in the pilot as your partnership and feedback are critical for our continued preparation for campus launch.
