Last year HR announced that the quick hire process for hiring short-term employees would be eliminated by the end of 2018. As the end of the year approaches, we are pleased to share updates, including how to prepare for alternatives to the quick hire process. We know that this change will be significant for some departments, so HR staff look forward to partnering with you to find options that support your business needs.

  • What: The quick hire process is being eliminated as of 12/31/18.
  • Why: To ensure UCSF meets compliance requirements related to equal employment opportunity.
  • When: As of January 2019, departments will work with their Staff Generalist and Talent Acquisition to identify the best way to hire short-term/limited employees based on their needs.
  • Who is affected:
    • Managers who rely on the quick hire process to hire limited and contract employees
    • HR Liaisons whose departments use the quick hire process
    • Note: Employees hired prior to 12/31/18 via the Quick Hire process are not impacted - Renewal/Extension requests will be processed through the existing process
  • What do I need to do to prepare?
    • Assess whether your department currently relies on the quick hire process and consult with HR about alternatives for the specific circumstances
    • Review more detailed information
    • Watch for regular updates in HR Update, including access to a toolkit of resources
    • Attend a webinar in January to ask your questions
