You may have heard that UC and the police union FUPOA have reached agreement for a new contract. The contract has been ratified and is moving into implementation. Highlights of the agreement include:

Duration: Four years, with expiration at the end of 2020.

Wages: 3 percent across-the-board increases effective the first pay period of every July. (Note there is to be an increase effective July 2, 2017, to be implemented, including retro-payments, by Oct. 9, 2017.)

Specialty Pay: Moving from a flat dollar amount to 5 percent above the officer’s base wage effective Oct. 8, 2017. Effective July 29, 2018, a special response team designation will be included as a specialty, and officers so designated will receive an additional 5 percent of base wage pay, on top of other specialty pay, if any.  

Post-Certification Pay: Effective Oct. 8, 2017, moving from a flat dollar amount to 4 percent above the officer’s base wage for an intermediate certificate, and 8 percent for an advanced certificate.

Shift Differential: This is the first time shift differential has been introduced for police officers and will be phased in. Effective July 29, 2018, officers working between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. will be paid an additional $1.50 per hour for hours worked between those hours. Beginning July 28, 2019, the hours will be expanded to 10 p.m.–6 a.m. and effective Aug. 1, 2020, the hours will be expanded again to 9 p.m.–6 a.m.

Compensatory Time Banks: For the first time, campuses are required to offer compensatory time off (CTO), with non-refillable banks of up to 60 hours per year.
