Professional Staff Development (PSD)
The series that engages your staff in their ongoing development!
Register now! November–December series is available in the UC Learning Center.
This series is offered to non-supervisory staff. It focuses on core competencies that support their professional success, with an emphasis on communication, customer focus and problem-solving. Participants must sign up for all five sessions.

The Fall 2016 Campus Management Practices Series
The Campus Management Practices Series offers short sessions on a variety of topics designed to help you navigate certain campus-specific management responsibilities and learn key human resources policies and procedures. New supervisors and above are encouraged to complete this series in their first six months. Registration is open; you can register for each session separately. This series started on Sept. 1. Log into the UC Learning Center and search "CMPS."

Leading the Frontline Series – NovemberJanuary
This program is for current supervisors and frontline managers, as well as emerging leaders who are formally designated by their managers to be promoted to a supervisor/management role within 6 months. It develops core competencies essential for success in a frontline leadership role. Enrollment is not available through the UC Learning Center.

Accomplishing More with Less:  Dec. 9 
This highly popular one-day workshop helps participants harness the power of organizational skills to deal with today’s most pressing workplace issues such as time management, prioritization, dealing with interruptions, email, calendars, and to-do lists, as well as organizing electronic and paper documents. 

Microsoft Excel Workshops
Microsoft Excel Intermediate: Oct. 5, 1–4:30 p.m. and Oct. 27, 8:30 a.m.–12 p.m. in computer room 307, Laurel Heights, 3333 California Street. This workshop is for business users who are already familiar with Microsoft Excel and want to take their skills to the next level. Class fee: $70. (Search words: Excel half-day)

Microsoft Excel Advanced: Oct. 27, 1–4:30 p.m. in computer room 307, Laurel Heights, 3333 California Street. This workshop covers Pivot Tables and how they can be an invaluable tool in helping you analyze your data. Excel Macros will also be discussed. Class fee: $70. (Search words: Excel half-day)

Two Business Writing Essentials
Write Right!, Oct. 20
This all-day workshop covers the foundation of business writing to make sure participants know current grammar rules and how to spot and correct errors. 
Get to the Point, Nov. 1
This all-day workshop focuses on the crucial writing issues: purpose and audience. It will cover practical ways you can organize, format, and write a communication, such as an email, so the reader quickly gets the point and acts on it. 

New Leader Onboarding 2016 – Successful Transitions
New Leader Onboarding is offered every month to newly hired or promoted supervisors and managers who are new to supervising staff at UCSF. This interactive program offers:

  • An overview of UCSF culture and priorities 
  • Guidelines on how to develop a smooth and effective transition into your new role
  • An orientation to tools and resources available to you in your role as a manager 
  • A chance to network with peers at UCSF

Register through the UC Learning Center, using the search term "onboarding." The next session is offered on October 26 from 8 a.m.12:30 p.m. pm at Laurel Heights, Regents Room, Sublevel 1, 3333 California Street.

Online Learning Resource
An online resource was introduced to support learning and development for all staff and managers. It includes hundreds of free e-courses and videos on numerous topics, which are available to you online 24/hours a day.
