How to Develop and Enhance Your Success – Learning Resources for UCSF Staff & Managers Webinar – NEW!

The UCSF Learning & Organization Development department is offering a webinar on how to maximize your own and your staff’s development. It will provide an overview of the numerous resources available to staff and leaders, from live facilitator-led programs to online learning which is available 24/7 at no charge. 

The webinar is scheduled on May 10 from 9–10 a.m. Registration is open in the UC Learning Center. Enter “develop and enhance” on the search field. 

The Spring 2016 Campus Management Practices Series 
The Campus Management Practices Series offers short sessions on a variety of topics designed to help you navigate certain Campus-specific management responsibilities and learn key human resource policies and procedures. New supervisors and above are encouraged to complete this series in their first 6 months. Registration is open; you can register for each session separately.  

Professional Staff Development (PSD), April–May 
This series is offered to non-supervisory staff. It focuses on core competencies that support their professional success, with an emphasis on communication, customer focus and problem-solving. Participants must sign up for all five sessions. 

Leading the Frontline Series, May–July
This series will start on May 19 and is offered to current supervisors, frontline managers, or staff members who are targeted for promotion to a supervisor or management role within six months of the program. It develops core competencies essential for success in a frontline leadership role. Enrollment in this program is not available through the UC Learning Center. 

Managing Challenging Patient Behaviors, May 6
This is an all-day session that provides a framework for understanding challenging patient behaviors and engaging patients with a balance of empathy and respectful limit setting. It offers best practices for addressing these behaviors, as well as an opportunity to do scenario-based role playing to practice responses to challenging patient behaviors. 

Accomplishing More with Less, June 3
This highly popular one-day workshop helps participants to harness the power of organizational skills to deal with today’s most pressing workplace issues, such as time management, prioritization, dealing with interruptions, email, calendars and to-do lists, as well as organizing electronic and paper documents. 

Two Business Writing Essentials 
Write Right!, June 6

This all-day workshop covers the foundation of business writing to make sure participants know current grammar and how to spot and correct errors. 
Get to the Point, June 15
This all-day workshop focuses on the crucial writing issues: purpose and audience. It will cover practical ways you can organize, format and write a communication, such as an email, so the reader quickly gets the point and can act on it. 

New Leader Onboarding 2016 – Successful Transitions
New Leader Onboarding is offered every month to newly hired or promoted supervisors and managers who are new to supervising staff at UCSF. This interactive program offers:

  • An overview of UCSF culture and priorities 
  • Guidelines on how to develop a smooth and effective transition into your new role
  • An orientation to tools and resources available to you in your role as a manager 
  • A chance to network with peers at UCSF

Register through the UC Learning Center, using the search term “onboarding.” Next session is offered on April 18 from 1:30-4:30 p.m., at 3360 Geary Blvd., Third Floor Training Room B.

Online Learning Resource
An online resource was recently introduced to support learning and development for all staff and managers.  It includes hundreds of free e-courses and videos on numerous topics, which are available to you online, twenty-four hours a day.  To learn more and begin exploring the catalog of these offerings, visit our website
