As you may know, UC is developing new retirement benefits for future UC employees (hired on/after July 1, 2016) as a result of last year’s 2015 budget agreement between UC and state leaders. The task force President Napolitano convened last summer to recommend options for the new retirement benefits recently presented her with its recommendations. President Napolitano also invites feedback on the task force recommendations from faculty, staff and others to help inform the proposal she is expected to bring to the UC Board of Regents in March.

To learn more, please view resources on the UCOP website, including a fact sheet, FAQs, and background information. Comments are welcome via the website. Additionally, UCOP will present two webinars to discuss the recommendations and receive questions/comments:

  • Monday, February 1 from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday, February 10 from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

A few important things about the task force’s recommendations:

  • The recommendations are not final decisions. Over the coming weeks, President Napolitano is inviting feedback on the task force recommendations from the UC community. She will use that input to help inform the proposal she is expected to bring to the UC Board of Regents in March.
  • The new retirement benefits will apply only to future UC employees hired on or after July 1, 2016 — retirement benefits for current employees and retirees are not affected.
  • Retirement benefits for union-represented employees are determined through the collective bargaining process.
