The UCSF HR Employee Recognition Program Selection Committee is pleased to announce this quarter’s Hero Highlight award recipients are Edmund Chang and Chryss Rayrao! They are both recognized for their community service and volunteer work.

Name: Edmund Chang
Job Title: HR Academic Generalist
HR Team/Work Unit: Team B

Why Nominated:
“During Christmas, Edmund traveled to China to meet with high school and college students in Kunming City, Yunan Province. They are mostly from underserved tribal families and the first in their families to go to high school or college. He shared his experience to prepare them for their academic and career life. He will also become a mentor to a few students.

He has also been the coordinator of his church's citizenship program to help new immigrants learn how to pass the citizenship interview. He is also one of the teachers. He runs the program two hours each Sunday from April to September and has also developed the curriculum for over 10 years.”

What does Edmund enjoy doing outside of work?
“I do a lot of volunteering. I also spend time with my family, especially my wife. I’m not a die-hard baseball fan, but I play fantasy baseball religiously.”

Name: Chryss Rayrao
Job Title: Postdoctoral Scholar HR Generalist
HR Team/Work Unit: HR Postdoc Shared Services Unit

Why Nominated:
“I would like to recognize the volunteer service that Chryss Rayrao has been contributing to W.O.M.A.N., Inc. For years Chryss has been volunteering in different capacities for the organization. Such joy comes to her face when describing her time there and all the cooking she does for them, getting excited about different dishes to make for them, etc.

The work/life balance can be hard to achieve, and then to bring volunteer work into the mix can be even more of a challenge, time-wise. So, thank you, Chryss, for being so dedicated and for making the time to help others!”

What does Chryss enjoy doing outside of work?
“I would like to continue to give back and make simple changes. The most precious thing I have to give is my time. I raised three beautiful children through tough times living in San Francisco, and with this passion I was able to help others. I have met a lot of good people during my time volunteering at the Women’s, Children, and Family program for over two decades. I believe an act of kindness can blossom in our lives and create generosity in the heart of humanity.”
