This is a reminder that employees participating in the University of California Retirement Plan (UCRP) will continue participation until there is a break in service, per the UCRP Plan Document, Article 2.36. The membership will continue even if an employee transitions to an appointment type that is typically not eligible for UCRP membership; for example, a transition from an academic position participating in UCRP to a trainee position such as a postdoc or a resident/fellow will result in UCRP membership continuing. If a break in service is warranted, UC advises the break should be a bona fide break of at least 30 days. Managers should keep this in mind when planning for transitions.
