The next step in our efforts to transform UCSF Human Resources to improve customer service and efficiency is recruitment of the Manager of the HR Partners unit. This position will report to Jenny Schreiber, the Director of HR Shared Services (see the HR Shared Services org chart here and HR Partners Manager job description here).

This position will be open to current UCSF HR employees, and a panel of department customer representatives will recommend candidates to Jenny Schreiber. Richard Secunda from the School of Medicine Dean’s Office will chair the panel.

The HR Partners Manager will develop, market and launch the HR Partners unit; select, develop and manage the HR Partners team; develop and execute unit performance standards and employ methods to assess the success of unit activities; implement continuous improvement strategies to ensure the effectiveness of the unit; and exemplify/model success in the HR Partner role by effectively performing as a lead HR Partner for an assigned group of UCSF leaders.  

HR Partners will function as partners to departments using HR services by providing strategic support for activities such as the design of work positions, hiring, recognition, performance appraisals, career and succession planning and talent development. Specific examples may include:

  • UCSF performance evaluation process changes 
  • Department/unit reorganization and planning
  • UCSF HR customer service assessment – result analysis and improvement strategy
  • Recommendations of different hiring options for filling vacancies
  • Helping departments develop a hiring philosophy
  • Making the connection between succession planning and development plans while tying it to training offered at UCSF
